Product Description
The Sunrise Medical Quickie Xtender Power Assist integrates motorised rear wheels into a compatible manual wheelchair frame. Developed in partnership with Yamaha, the system amplifies push rim force up to four times, reducing energy expenditure and supporting longer distances.
By assisting each push, the Xtender reduces upper limb fatigue and may help minimise repetitive strain to wrists, elbows and shoulders. Users continue to propel via push rims, maintaining active mobility while benefiting from motor support.
Electronic wheel synchronisation ensures both rear wheels communicate continuously, adjusting speed to support straight-line propulsion. This may assist people with uneven upper limb strength, including those with hemiplegia or other neurological conditions.
Rollback Prevention and Downhill Speed Control functions operate automatically, supporting safe climbing and controlled descent without programming.
The quick-release motorised wheels detach easily, allowing transitions between assisted and fully manual propulsion. Because the system integrates into the manual frame, storage and transport remain similar to a standard wheelchair.
Multiple drive modes – Single Mode, Bi-Mode and Sports Mode – allow tailoring of assistance levels to individual needs.
Who it’s for
- For manual wheelchair clients wanting push rim-activated power with reduced fatigue over longer distances.
- For therapists prescribing joint-protective propulsion while maintaining manual wheelchair function.
