For most people, the thought of taking a shower is relaxing and soaking in a bath, being isolated, pondering about self and letting the mind drift. But the elderly and those with disabilities cannot indulge this luxury as their safety has to be considered with precautionary measures. Mobility aids designed especially to provide them with the facility of doing things independently without help. Various mobility aids for bathroom use provide these people with the opportunity to take a shower in privacy and decently to a certain extent.

Some of the most commonly used mobility aids in bathrooms:

Shower Chairs and Stools and Shower Chairs with Castors

These bathroom aid chairs are free-standing chairs and stools which can be immovable or mobile. The immobile chairs have adjustable legs, a seat and a backrest. It is highly recommendable to ensure the floor base is safe and not slippery. The mobile chairs have small wheels to enable the user to push the chair into a shower cubicle. Further. if the wheels are larger it is easier to push the chair by self or by the helper. It will also be easier to push the chair if the floor has a smooth surface. Moreover, if the chair or stool is foldable it will come in useful for storing and transporting purposes.

Sometimes, the chair might be difficult to be pushed depending on the floor surfaces. The chair could be manufactured to be equipped with larger rear wheels for independent use and also be used as a help-propelled chair whenever it is difficult to be pushed.

Swivel Bath Seats

These seats fit over the bath and have the preference of swivelling over the bath and locks the mechanism with the lever when the user is seated and taking a shower. These are designed with back support and armrests but does not lower the user into the bath. The user can simply take a shower in a seated position.

Mobile Shower

The mobile shower or commode chair is usable in the bathroom or as a mobile chair with a vent or toilet seat to be used over the toilet. It is a multi-purpose chair that has a tilt-in-space option with adjustable height adaptable to various types of users. It is available with large or small wheels.
