Product Description
The Talley Quattro Sentinel Mattress provides high-level pressure care using a 1-in-4 alternating cell cycle that continuously supports 75% of the body while redistributing pressure and promoting tissue reperfusion. This supports comfort and reduces complications related to prolonged immobility.
Its bariatric-specific design includes Ortho-Differential Support (ODS) for enhanced edge stability, making transfers safer and more supported. Auto Support technology ensures consistent pressure levels by responding to patient weight, movement and posture throughout the cycle.
Therapy modes include continuous low pressure for immersion, maximum inflation for specific care tasks, and comfort control for compliance.
A demand-based Phase Flow pump enhances energy efficiency and minimises noise, while a waterproof, multi-stretch cover protects against shear and fluid ingress.
This mattress is suitable for hospital, home and facility use for those with body weights up to 370kg, who require comprehensive pressure care.
Who it’s for
- For bariatric clients who are at high to very high risk of pressure injuries.
- For therapists wanting a durable, clinically tested alternating air system with enhanced edge support and therapy modes.

Key features
Description
- Active 1-in-4 cell cycle – supports 75% of the patient’s body at all times, on groups of three inflated cells, whilst the fourth cell deflates sufficiently to redistribute the pressure and encourage tissue reperfusion. Additional benefits include enhanced patient comfort, less awareness of support surface movement and a reduction of stimulus-related complications such as muscle spasm
- Ortho-differential support – ‘ODS’ results in firmer outer edges of the mattress which facilitate patient transfers and provide extra support, safety and comfort for larger or heavier patients. It also creates a softer central area of the mattress, ideal for smaller, lighter patients.
- Auto Support – ‘Auto Support’ automatically adjusts pressure within each of the cells throughout the cycle so that support, posture and therapy are constantly maintained at optimum levels, in response to patient weight, movement and position. Equalisation of cell pressure automatically takes place at each stage of the cycle, again to ensure precise pressure and therapy is applied.
- Reactive therapy – reactive therapy enhances patient immersion and envelopment into the mattress and applies a constant low pressure to the skin and subcutaneous tissue
- Comfort control – allows the carer to adjust the comfort setting in either therapy mode to help patient compliance.
- Phase flow – ‘Phase Flow’ pressure control pump operates on demand only, reducing power consumption, noise and extending service life.
- Continuous low pressure – when in Continuous Low Pressure mode pressure is equalised within the cells to create a reactive therapy surface, allowing greater immersion and envelopment into the mattress and optimum pressure distribution
- Pressure relieving stretch cover – the multi-stretch cover promotes tissue offloading during cell deflation and reduces shear and friction during patient movement or manual repositioning. The material is waterproof, moisture-vapour permeable and all seams are welded to protect the inside of the mattress from fluid ingress
- Maximum inflation – inflates the mattress to maximum static pressure for 15 minutes before returning to previous therapy mode, necessary for some nursing procedures when an active support surface is unsuitable
- Low air loss – air is released and circulated beneath the mattress cover to reduce humidity and help manage the skin ‘microclimate’ between the patient and the support surface.
- CPR facility – for simple and effective rapid deflation to enable CPR procedures
- Cable management system – in-built cable management system to enhance safety and usability in clinical and homecare settings

FAQ
What are the benefits of using a pressure-reducing mattress?
Pressure-reducing mattresses help distribute body weight evenly, minimise pressure points, and improve comfort for individuals who are bedridden or at an increased risk of pressure injuries
What is the difference between a foam mattress and a hybrid pressure care mattress?
A foam mattress is typically made of visco-elastic foam or similar materials, offering consistent support and pressure redistribution. Hybrid mattresses combine foam layers with air cell configurations, offering additional pressure reduction and comfort.
How does an alternating air mattress work?
An alternating air mattress supports the user’s body on the inflated cells, whilst the deflated cells offload pressure and allow increased blood flow to the skin and tissues. The air cells alternate between inflation and deflation to prevent and manage pressure injuries.
Who can benefit from using a hybrid pressure care mattress?
Hybrid mattresses are ideal for individuals with moderate to high risk of developing pressure injuries, as they offer both comfort and advanced pressure redistribution.
How often should foam pressure-reducing mattresses be replaced?
Foam mattresses should typically be replaced every 3-5 years, or sooner if there are visible signs of wear, such as sagging or loss of support, which could compromise their effectiveness.
What are the key features of an alternating air mattress?
An alternating air mattress features a pump system that cycles air through the mattress cells, relieving pressure on the body and helping prevent pressure injuries.
Can pressure care mattresses be used on any type of bed frame?
Yes, most pressure care mattresses are compatible with standard bed frames, though adjustable or profiling beds may be recommended for maximum therapeutic benefits.
What is the difference between low air loss and alternating air mattresses?
Low air loss mattresses provide continuous airflow to maintain skin integrity and prevent moisture buildup, while alternating air mattresses have a low air loss feature which assists in the management of heat and moisture in the skin.
Are pressure care mattresses covered by health insurance or NDIS?
Depending on the patient’s medical condition and specific needs, pressure care mattresses may be covered by health insurance or funding bodies like the NDIS. Check with your provider for eligibility.
How do I maintain and clean an alternating air mattress?
Alternating air mattresses should be wiped down with mild detergent and warm water regularly. The pump, tubing and air cells should also be checked periodically for any blockages or air leaks.
