The COVID-19 pandemic is creating havoc in people’s lives resulting in self-isolation and lockdown in most countries thereby forcing people to work from home.

Working from home has been on the upward trend for many years and some companies promote remote work as a benefit for their employees to improve the work and balance work-life and also put a tab social distancing.

Currently, the daily routine has changed for many workers due to the world’s interest in containing COVID-19. It is a challenging task to stay productive, healthy and sane adjusting to this new routine.

Keeping a Detailed Planner

For most people who are not used to working from home, the best way to maintain a routine and sanity is to keep a planner to keep a check on the day’s routine professionally and personally. Prioritize tasks that need to be completed for current assignments such as which coworker needs your attention, what other work needs to be completed once the laptop is shut. If you think up a plan for both office and home chores it will probably not come together and disrupt your scheduled work. A planner should be within eye’s reach at all times.

Commence the Day with No Screen Time

Most of us spend too much time with a smartphone, tablet, television or computers. Aim to spend at least the first 45 minutes as you wake up away from these devices. Preparing your morning beverage, discussing the day’s plan with your spouse, and taking a walk would probably freshen up the mind and body before focusing on tackling a daily assignment.

Multitasking

It is researched and proven that changing tasks frequently weakens memory and concentration skills, along with the ability to differentiate unnecessary information. However, this is not possible most of the time as sometimes the workload is too much and demand nonstop attention. In this instance, a timer could help focus attention easily.

Activating the timer on the phone to delegate your time on projects that need better concentration is recommended.

How to Work from home

With many well-known companies around the world resorting to mandatory work-from-home policies amidst the spread of COVID-19, most people will be working from home for the first time, adjusting to stay focused in a new environment that may not blend to productivity. However, there are ways and means to deliver results, from getting your workspace sorted out to the way you communicate with your team.

Although many people in offices work close to their boss where communication is easy, in certain instances where there are no devices to work from home a breakdown in communication is uncontrollable.

Treat your Home space as a real office

Treat your home desk as your real office desk. Take a shower and get dressed and do as much as to create an office environment exclusively for work.

Once a good workspace to concentrate is sorted out, unlocking the benefits of remote work becomes easier.  According to a survey last year by FlexJobs, 65% were found to be more productive working from home, citing lesser interruptions from co-workers, minimal office civics and stress reduction from travelling.
