AM Session: Healthy Hips: Where to Start and How to Utilize AT to Maximize Outcomes
Maintaining and promoting health of the hip joint is a clinical priority when working with children who have a neurological impairment. Issues that relate to the hip joint and the secondary complications that arise from these issues are prevalent in this population. We will review the current evidence in normal and abnormal hip development and learn to develop a successful 24-hour Posture Management including postural support in sitting, along with the opportunity for weight bearing and active movement in standing and walking are integral to promoting hip health in this population.
Join us for this morning session where we will take a deep dive into hip health in the Paediatric population, considering how different equipment can be used throughout a child’s day to promote “healthy hips” providing lasting benefits for a child and their care givers.

PM: Session: Title: Power to the Kids: Building Competence and Confidence
Join us for practical tips for introducing and building on paediatric power wheelchair skills, from joysticks to switches and other alternate control options to open opportunities not only for driving but also for communication. As we know, this does not only relate to the child but to all who are involved with them including families, teachers and other therapists. We will also touch on the value of providing independent movement to young children to maximise their development, opportunities for independence, and most importantly – play!
